Betty Louise Hamby

Betty Louise Hamby, 73, of Quitman, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Presbyterian Home.

She was born January 13, 1942, in Lowndes County, a daughter of James Glenn Gregory, Sr. and Irene Spell Gregory. She had worked at the Lowndes County Magistrate Court and later the Superior Court, before leaving to stay at home with her children. Mrs. Hamby enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and enjoyed traveling to Cherokee, NC and Gatlinburg, TN. For many years she and her husband enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their home on Friday nights.

She is survived by six children, Alene and husband David Kinsey of Lake Park, Buddy and wife Teresa Pitzing of Lake Park, Rena and husband Jody Brantley of Sterlington, LA, Lonnie and wife Tena Pitzing of Quitman, William and wife Cassie Hamby of Valdosta, and Lacricia Hamby Jones of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Buck and wife April Coats, Cole Bowser, Taylor and husband Ryan Cruz, Chase Pitzing, Chase Hughes, Amanda Hughes, Sloan, Jacob and Skyler Hamby, Tyler, Tanner, Shelby, and Shannon Brantley, Keeley Pitzing, Trent, Jody and Chase; several great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn Gregory, Jr. and Sherri of Valdosta; a sister, Helen Rentz of Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John D. (Johnny) Hamby.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to United Hospice for the wonderful care and support given to Mrs. Hamby.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hamby will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, with Reverend Jay Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
