Betty Lou Gornto

October 16, 1927 — January 9, 2021

Betty Lou Gornto, 93, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Fellowship Home in Nashville. Born on October 16, 1927, in Ty Ty, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Frank Landon Underwood and Ida Linton Barrs Underwood. Following the death of both parents at an early age, she was raised by family members Leo and Hallie Collins. Mrs. Gornto was a teacher and taught for 30 years with the Lowndes Board of Education. Widow of the late William Calvin Gornto, Jr., she was a Baptist and enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling. Betty loved time spent with her family.
Survivors are her children, William Calvin Gornto, III of Anchorage, Alaska, Suzanne (Jack) Smith of Plant City, Florida, Doris (Lott) Dill of Ocilla, Frances Gornto of Hahira, Grace (Michael) Esposito of St. Augustine, Florida, Mary (Carl) Feickert of St. Peters, Missouri, and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Chaplain Mike Harper will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
