Betty Kate Deas, 70, lifelong resident of Lake Park, died suddenly in her sleep after a period of declining health, on Monday, March 31, 2008 in Pensacola, Florida. Born in Pearson, on November 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Lawton and Betsy P. Haskins. Mrs. Deas was a homemaker and had worked for Owens Illinois for 8 years as an Engineering Secretary during the late 50's and early 60's. Before her health declined she was a very active member of her church, Lake Park United Methodist Church. Mrs. Deas had a gift and a way with people. She loved to entertain her family and friends.
Survivors are her husband of 51 years, Santa F. Deas of Lake Park; a daughter, Gigi Peavy of Lake Park, a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Chris Townsend of Orlando, Florida, a son and special friend, Alexander (Zander) Deas and Karen Hill of Lake Park; grandchildren, Logan Peavy of Lake Park, Connor Townsend, Lauren Townsend, and Morgan Kate Townsend of Orlando, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Sharon Haskins of Jasper, Florida, a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and David Burnham of Jasper, Florida, a special friend, Geneva Robinson of Valdosta and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Lake Park United Methodist Church. Reverend Sam Vernon will officiate. Burial will follow at Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
