Betty Jo St. John Green, 80, of Valdosta, died on Monday, January 18, 2016. She was born September 21, 1935 in Valdosta to the late Carrie Lee & Walter Howard St. John, Jr. Mrs. Green was a graduate of Valdosta High School and while there won state competitions for her vocal solo performances. She continued to share her talents and love of music throughout her life singing in her church choir. She especially enjoyed participating in the annual Christmas Cantatas and the Living Christmas Tree performances at Lee Street Baptist Church. After high school, Mrs. Green studied at Tift College in Forsyth before meeting and marrying her husband, Houston Green. They were married for 58 years prior to his death in 2014. Mrs. Green was a member of Covenant Baptist Church; she was a devout Christian, a loving wife, mother, friend and grandmother (Nanny). In 2001 when she became confined to a wheelchair, she became involved with The Mailbox Club International. Mrs. Green went above and beyond, not only providing bible study lessons through the mail to these children, but writing personal letters to her students and lifting them up in prayer. The ministry evolved into "B.J.'s Bible Club" a prison ministry for incarcerated adults and their children, a ministry Covenant Baptist Church continues today. She also worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant for Tom Gregory at TMA Architects.
Mrs. Green is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, DeDe and Bobby Forte of Valdosta, Mandy and Dave Litzke of Plain City, OH, and Shelly and Nick Oehlers of Sylvania, OH; twenty-one grandchildren, Gabrielle, Madeline and Thomas Forte, Jami, Morgan, Kendal, Maria, Molly, Megan, Kiara, Joy, Sophie, Paige, Ally, Chase, Christian, Bryce, Devon and DJ, Bret and Brock Brown; and one sister, Barbara Rouse of Valdosta.
