Betty Jean “BJ” Griner, 83, of Valdosta died on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Valdosta on February 24, 1934 to the late John William and Nona Wisenbaker Copeland and has been a lifelong resident of this area. She was employed with Levi Strauss for over 40 years as a seamstress. She carried her love of sewing into her private life and created many clothes for family and friends. She was very creative and a perfectionist. Mrs. Griner was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and D’Ann Griner of Valdosta; two granddaughters, Kayla Griner of Hahira, and Connie Griner of Valdosta; her great-grandson, Gavin Howell of Valdosta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Linda Copeland, Johnny and BeeBee Copeland, and John William Jr., (Bubba) and Teresa Copeland all of Valdosta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Darrell Seckinger of Naylor, Wanda and Charlie Spray of Valdosta, Sharon and Nick Banks of Jacksonville, Florida, Eva Nell Shiver, and Donna and Hardy Bennett all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Griner; her grandson, Michael Wayne Griner; two brothers, Randall Copeland and Jody Copeland, and a sister, Connie Powers; a niece, DeeDee Mills, and a nephew, Rodney Copeland.
Services for Betty Griner will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Gupton officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
