Betty J. Phillips, 82, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 10, 2012.

She was a born September 9, 1929 in Valdosta, a daughter of the late Chester "Phil" and Mildred Giddens Phillips. Miss Phillips graduated from Valdosta High School with the Class of 1946. She had been employed at Orkin for many years as the Office Manager before going into business with her lifelong friend, Millie J. Chitwood. Together they operated The Party Shop, Milbets and Camelot Hallmark Shop for twenty-five years. Following her retirement she greatly enjoyed traveling.

Miss Phillips was a Christian and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She loved her church, her family and the company of children, and enjoyed working in her yard.

She is survived by two brothers, Hal C. Phillips and wife Ruth of Ousley, and Austin F. Phillips and wife Hilda of Guntersville, AL; one niece; one nephew; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her friend and caregiver, Millie J. Chitwood of Valdosta. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Phillips, and two nephews.

A Graveside Service for Miss Phillips will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Charlie Scarbrough and Dr. Ken Alford officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
