Betty Irene “Bett” Peeples, 90, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center. Daughter of the late Violet Sadie Shaffar and Joseph E.
Thompson, Betty was born on July 28, 1927 in Waukegan, Illinois. Betty attended Pensacola Jr. College and Columbia University. She met and married Lloyd Chandler Peeples, Sr. and together they shared 71 years of marriage until Lloyd’s death in September of this year.
A mother of three, Betty sold real estate in Florida and worked as an Executive Secretary at the Contemporary at Walt Disney World. As the Director of Special Programs for a Central Florida nursing home, she began the “Adopt-A-Grandparent” Program for the residents. The Program won the Walt Disney Community Service Award. A member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta, Betty was a faithful church worker. She taught many Sunday school classes over the years.
Survivors are her sister, Norene Ledford of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; her two daughters and a son in law, Toby P. Nickson of Monticello, Florida, Susan P. (Carl) Meece of O’Brien, Florida; her grandchildren, Lloyd C. (Candi) Peeples, III, Jon D. (Paige) Peeples, Meredith L. Luke, Kristin R. (Ben) Fecko and Lauren E. Meece; her great grandchildren, Lauren G. Peeples, Morgan R. Peeples, Lloyd C. Peeples, IV, Lilly D. Peeples, Charlie B. Fecko, and Violet E. Fecko; her great great granddaughter, Leah M. Gaiti. She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Chandler Peeples, Sr., her son, Lloyd Chandler Peeples, II, and her parents.
The family extends their gratitude to Betty’s caregivers, Marsha Holmes and Myra Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Reverend Mack Weaver will officiate. Committal will take place at Wellborn Cemetery, Wellborn, Florida. Betty’s family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
