Betty Howell Chason

Betty Howell Chason passed away at her daughter’s home on Friday, November 1, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 21, 1932 and graduated from Valdosta High School and Georgia State Women’s College. Mrs. Chason was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church and served on the Alter Guild for many years. She was an avid gardener and bridge player, and member of Readers Forum and DAR.
Mrs. Chason was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mary Howell, her husbands Charles Callahan and Edwin Chason, her sister Beatrice Fulwood, and her brothers Fielding Howell and Winston Howell.
Survivors are her sons, Chuck Callahan of Tampa, Florida, Steve Callahan of Mobile, Alabama, and David Callahan of Valdosta, and her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Randy Minor of Valdosta; grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Callahan, Jeff (Alina) Callahan, Scott (Merridith) Callahan, Lily Callahan, Chase Callahan, Susan Callahan, Gaylen (Frank) Nitriansky, Stephen (Alicia) Callahan, Meghan (Clint) Pagan, Katelyn (Michael) Croom, Aryn Callahan, Matthew (Lauren) Callahan, Taylor Callahan, Lindsay (Grant) Groher, and Cady (Carter) Karras; and 22 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Shenita Ferguson, Betty Jo Little, and Lu Mullis.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Doctor Dave Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Episcopal Church at 1521 Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA, 31602; Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, Georgia, 31602; or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida, 33607.
A family graveside service will be held in Tucker, Georgia at a later date.
