Betty H. Holcombe

Betty H. Holcombe, 88, of Valdosta, died at Langdale Hospice House on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Born in Columbus, Georgia on July 21, 1926, she was the daughter of William Clinton and Cleo Giddens Hutchinson. A dedicated member of First Baptist Church and a true disciple of her faith, Betty taught Sunday school and Bible Study for many years. She was a graduate of Georgia State Women's College, now Valdosta State University. After her children were grown, Betty continued her education at Valdosta State University where she earned her Master's Degree. She then taught college History at Valdosta State. She also worked in the Lowndes County Probate Court, alongside her husband, Judge T. N. Holcombe, Jr. Betty was an avid reader and book reviewer and enjoyed memberships with several book clubs. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Debra and Allan Nagy of Valdosta, Ginger and Jed Dees of Savannah, a son and daughter in law, Glen and Mary Holcombe of Orange Park, Florida; eight grandchildren, Jodi and Jason Myddelton of Valdosta, Jay McDonald of Coolidge, Josh Bennett of Valdosta, Sean and Casi Dees, Kristi Dees of Savannah, Carlo Beam, Katie Holcombe of Orange Park, Florida, Madalane Nagy of Nashville, Tennessee; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Arthur (Skeet) Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at 11:00 o'clock a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
