Betty Foster Wildes

August 20, 1932 — June 13, 2008

Betty Foster Wildes, 75, of Valdosta, died June 13, 2008 at Langdale Hospice House after a short illness. Mrs. Wildes was born August 20, 1932, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Thomas Foster of Cochran. She was a graduate of Middle Georgia College and Tift College. She was a school teacher and homemaker. Mrs. Wildes was an active member of First Baptist Church for 34 years. She served in several capacities including leader of WMU, Chancel Choir member, and FAITH ministry. She was a charter member of the Friendship Sunday School class and charter member of the Valdosta PEO Sisterhood.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gilbert D. Wildes of Valdosta; three children, Stephanie Wildes Summers and Jeff Summers, Andrew G. Wildes and Terri Harris Wildes all of Valdosta and Sharon Wildes Hildebrandt and Loren H. Hildebrant, Jr. of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, Kelly Summers Berry and Scott Berry of Savannah, Robert Foster Summers and Marshall Blake Summers; John Andrew Wildes and Joshua David Wildes all of Valdosta; Loren H. Hildebrant, III, Benjamin Gilbert Hildebrant, Elizabeth Mae Hildebrant and Debra Carey Hildebrant of Gainesville. Mrs. Wildes is also survived by a brother, Carlton Thomas Foster, Jr. and Glendol Foster of McDonough; and a long time family friend, Fran Ritchie of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Valdosta with Dr. Phil West, Rev. Ron Hatchett and Rev. Loren H. Hildebrant. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund or Building Fund, Gideon's International or Young Life.
