Betty Braun, 93, of Valdosta, died at Smith Hospital on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 following a brief illness after a period of declining health. Born in Detroit, MI on April 11, 1921, to the late David R. & Adele Porvin, she grew up in Detroit and then moved with her family to Miami during her college years as they owned and operated several hotels and motels . She met and married her late husband Moses Braun, in Miami in 1948. Their only son, Barry, was born there in 1950. They lived in Miami for many years until moving to Valdosta in 1996 to be closer to their family. Mrs. Braun was an avid card player, primarily Bridge and Mahjong. She also loved playing golf and played frequently when she was able with the ladies group at Stone Creek Golf Club. Mrs. Braun was of the Jewish faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Dr. Barry and Susan Braun of Hahira; four grandchildren Edward Braun of Valdosta, Lauren Braun of Atlanta, Patrice (& Jason) Tyler of Atlanta, and Robert Braun of Hahira. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Gabriel Braun of Valdosta, Sammy & Rebecca Tyler, both of Atlanta. She is preceded in death by her husband Moses, and a sister, Diane Zarrow.
A funeral service for Mrs. Braun will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim Schappaugh will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
