Mrs. Betty Brewen LaMontagne, 85, longtime resident of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009. Betty was born on June 18, 1923 in Krebs, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Cheney and Alice Dale Brewen. Betty married her WW II pilot Arthur H. LaMontagne in 1944 and began her lifetime journey as a wife, homemaker and mother. Betty was involved in many activities with her family and friends. She enjoyed tennis, beach trips, scouting, arts and crafts, traveling, gardening, but most of all she had a passion for bridge. Betty or Betty La as she was known to her bridge friends, was active in many bridge clubs and tournaments in Valdosta. Some of Bettys fondest memories were of her Super Glue weekend trips to various beaches with her three daughters and her travels across the United States to visit her son at his various Coast Guard stations.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Don) Binkley of Fruit Heights, Utah, Susan (Bill) Spillers of Tampa, Fl. Dr. Maggie LaMontagne of Statesboro, Ga. and son, Arthur J.(Joyce) LaMontagne of Saudi Arabia. Betty enjoyed her seven granddaughters, Dr. Erin (David) Morris, Jennifer Binkley, Kathrine Spillers, Dr.Elizabeth (Jeremy) Palubin, Darci LaMontagne, Andrea LaMontagne and Sarah (Josh) Strickland. One of Bettys most precious life moments was the birth of her great granddaughter, Gracie Madeleine Morris. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Art, her brother, Red Brewen and one grandson, Daniel Binkley. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to express deepest appreciation to Hospice of South Georgia and especially to Langdale Hospice House for the loving care and support they provided around the clock to our mother and family members.
