Bethene Bennett

July 25, 1912 — July 16, 2005

Bethene Bennett, 92, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, July 16, 2005, after a sudden illness. Born in Cook County to the late Jessie Albert & Minnie Ola Castleberry, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church and was active in the Primitive Baptist Faith in this area. Over the years, Mrs. Bennett assisted her late husband in their businesses, Bennett Contracting and Bennett Flooring. She had many special friends at the Baptist Village in Lake Park and she was an excellent seamstress and taught others in her family to sew as well. Mrs. Bennett was supremely devoted to her family, and was a very loving and caring Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother and Mother in “Love”. She was affectionately known to many as “Nanny”.

Survivors include five daughters and sons in law, Mary Helen & Leslie Davis of Valdosta, Marjorie & Ernest McDonald of Valdosta, Carolyn & Huey Manges of Lake Park, Louise B. & John Leonetti of St. Augustine, FL, and LaVerne & Wade Jackson of Valdosta; a son and daughter in law, Norman & Robin Bennett of Hahira; 23 grandchildren and their families, 39 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also surviving are six sisters and a brother in law, Leola Bennett of Adel, Lurene Becker of Tallahassee, Bernice Shieder of Mexico Beach, FL, Dorothy Thompson of Vero Beach FL, Loretha & Grady Evans of Alma, and Jean Jarvis of Brandon, FL; and a brother and sister in law, Skeeter & Margaret Castleberry of Murfreesboro, TN; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, G.W. Bennett and a sister and two brothers.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bennett will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at New Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in Hahira. Elder Thad Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Valdosta on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, P.O. Box 383, Hahira, GA 31632 or the Baptist Village in Lake Park, 763 Johnston Way, Lake Park, GA 31636.
