Bertie Manning

Bertie Manning, 83, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, August 31, 2017 after a sudden illness. Born in Laconia, NH to the late Albert Charles & Leitha Chase Varney, she had lived in this area for the past 35 years. Mrs. Manning and her family moved from New Hampshire when she was very young to Pasedena, CA. She then moved to Valdosta in the early 1980's to be near her family. For many years, Ms. Bertie worked as the manager of the Holiday Market in Lake Park and developed many friendships there, before her retirement 16 years ago. Since then, she has loved being at home, caring for her beloved cats, tending the garden, reading and occasionally visiting her friends, especially Mrs. Peggy. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed crafts such as sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her three daughters and two sons in law, Carol Hibbert, of Colorado Springs, CO, Cheryl & Robert Holmes of Valdosta, and Bertie & David Culpepper of Lake Park; two sons, Otis Forst of Warrenville, SC and Arthur Forst of Sedalia, MO; and nine grandchildren, Stacy McClellan, Michael (Jessica) York, Jason (Crystal) York, Ashley Holmes, Stephanie (Jonathan) Fender, Jessica Bassford, Jacqueline Varn, Bill Forst and Laura (Nickolas) Haulotte. Also surviving are 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by two brothers.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Bertie will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Carter will officiate.
