Ben A. Stubbe, Jr.

USAF CMSgt (Ret) Ben A. Stubbe, Jr., 75, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

He was born June 19, 1940 in Racine, WI, a son of the late Benjamin A. Stubbe, Sr. and the late Anna Fritzler Stubbe. Mr. Stubbe honorably served in the U.S. Air Force for twenty-nine and a half years, where he received several medals and awards for his outstanding service, including the Meritorious Service Medal with one device, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one device. He retired as Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Wing Commander at Moody Air Force Base.

Mr. Stubbe was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he had been Maintenance Supervisor for ten years; a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and had volunteered with their Tootsie Roll Drive and Bingo. He also was a volunteer with Relay for Life and enjoyed golf.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Claire Cote Stubbe of Valdosta; three children, Patricia Stradley of Guston, KY, Karl Stubbe and wife Julie of West Allis, WI, and Jeanne Crosby and husband Gary of Ray City; five grandchildren, Benjamin Goldsborough, Jared Stubbe, USAF A1C Kristina Stubbe, Raiden Ransburgh and Jayden Crosby; two sisters-in-law, Edna Huelsbeck and husband Dennis of Palmetto, FL, and Joanne Dow and husband Charles of Conway, NH; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brian A. Stubbe; and four sisters, Alta Stolowski, Shirley Butt, Velma Dittsworth and Nancy Strong.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Mr. Stubbe at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Rev. Brian LaBurt officiating. Entombment will follow with Military Honors at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Rosary Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
