BEATRICE HEMBY STRICKLAND, 93, of Lake Park and formerly of Columbus died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on December 3, 1914 in Crenshaw County, Alabama to the late James M. and Rosa Lee Kennedy Owens and had lived most of her life in Columbus before moving to Lake Park. She was a member of the Hamp Stevens Memorial Methodist Church in Columbus where she taught the Mary Alice Arnold Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Strickland was retired from Columbus Mills with fifty years of service.
Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Kirby and Janie Hemby of Lake Park, Wesley and Linda Strickland of Columbus, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Thomas Hemby and Wilton Wesley Strickland, a son, Franklin D. Hemby and a daughter, Mary Frances Hart.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Monday, March 10, 2008 in the chapel of Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. 31907. A private interment will be held at the Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
