Barry L. Hall, 61, of Hahira, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Langdale Hospice House after a courageous 3 ½ year battle with cancer. Born on June 28, 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, he was formerly of Guntersville and Huntsville, Alabama. Barry was employed with the Valdosta Police Department for 27 years from where he was retired as a Sgt. and a Chaplain. He had served in the United States Navy and was a graduate of Valdosta State University. Barry pastored several churches including Ousley Baptist Church, DuPont Baptist Church and Benevolence Baptist Church. Currently, Barry was a member and elder at Bethany Baptist Church and minster to Senior Adults. He played guitar in a praise band and served as a Board Member for LAMP. Prior to his illness Barry worked with Nick Bajalia for a year. He was passionate about serving others and loved playing practical jokes. He was a craftsman who enjoyed working in his shop making wooden crosses to share with others.
Survivors are his wife, Karen A. Hall of Hahira; two daughters, Yolanda and Charles (Artie) Calhoun of Hahira and Toyan N. Hall of Orlando, Florida; granddaughter, Melanie Nicole Hall; mother, Frankie Joyce Hall of Hahira; brothers and sisters in law, Frank A. and Lori Hall of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Bruce A. and Helen Hall of Mobile, Alabama; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Caleb A. Hall, Jr., and grandmother, Belva Iola Mann.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Elder Jimmy Miley, Elder Timmy Browning, Mr. Alan Carter and Mr. Bruce Hall will conduct the services. Burial with Police Honors will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
