Barbara Smith Mize

Barbara Smith Mize, 71, of Valdosta died Friday, November 19, 2010 at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi on September 28, 1939 to the late Charles Bertram, Sr. and Dorothy Holt Smith and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mrs. Mize was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and had been along with her husband the late Robert Mize an active supporter of the Georgia Sheriffs Boys Ranch. She had worked in her younger days with the New Yorker Magazine and was a cheerleader in high school. Mrs. Mize was an avid reader, loved the beach, playing cards and traveling to Lake Tahoe and Hawaii. She was a member of the Halifax River Yacht Club in Ormond Beach, Florida. Mrs. Mize was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and friend who was a lot of fun to be around and will be greatly missed. She was affectionately known as Grams to her family and friends.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter in law, Kevin and Stephanie Mize of Valdosta, Keith Mize of Griffin, stepson and stepdaughter in law, Robert and Cindy Mize of Missouri, stepdaughter, Mari Sanders of Knoxville, TN., her grandchildren, Kelly Mize, Stephen Mize, Zachary Mize, David Mize and Ryan Mize, stepgrandson, Will Mize, three brothers and two sisters in law, Charles B., Jr. and Connie Smith of Sevierville, TN., Jack D. and Virginia Smith of Birmingham, Ala. and Allen W. Smith of Atlanta, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Mize, a grandson, Robert Matthew Mize and a brother, Stephen Z. Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Webb and Pastor Jim Danner officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
