Barbara Kennedy Passmore, 92, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Fellowship Home in Brooks County. Born in Colquitt County on May 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Randolph Kennedy and Sarah Adelyn Dooley Kennedy. Barbara graduated from South Georgia State Normal College (now Valdosta State University) with a degree in Mathematics. While attending college, she met and married her husband of 58 years, William S. Passmore. Barbara enjoyed a career in the legal profession, most notably with the Barham and Bennett Law Firm. In later years, she managed The Price-Campbell Foundation, during which she provided philanthropic support for the local community, including medical student scholarships, prison inmate educational programs, and funding for local artists and writers.
Her interests were varied. Barbara loved travel, birding, computers, art, music—basically everything. She had a lifelong passion for learning. She pursued graduate studies in English and, in her later years, she studied French at VSU.
Besides her beloved husband and children, Barbara’s little daschund Greta was her closest companion. Her dear friend, Roberta George, adopted Greta in her last years.
Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Anne P. and Neil Lennard of Lake Park; son and daughter-in-law William S. “Bill”, Jr., and Didem Passmore of Charlotte, North Carolina; nephew Thomas R. Kennedy of Ty Ty; nephew Frank L. “Larry” Stephenson of Valdosta; nieces Susan K. Martin of Coolidge, Sally K. Ray of Arlington, and Kathryn K. (Kerry) Watts of Valdosta; and nephew William A. (Judy) Touchton of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Passmore.
Mrs. Passmore’s family thanks Deloris Brown of Home Instead, the staff at the Elms at Fellowship Home, and Hospice of South Georgia for making her last months as comfortable as possible.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Valdosta/Lowndes County or the Snake Nation Press. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the Passmore family.
