Barbara June Snow Tomlinson, 84, of Valdosta, went home to be with the Lord at her home on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by her daughter’s Susan Lynn Tomlinson and Lisa Lynn Tomlinson. Born in St. Augustine on August 30, 1940, Barbara grew up in South Florida and later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she graduated from Central High School in 1958. She spent her high school days in activities like singing with Billy Graham’s ministry and participating in the Girls Athletic Association at her high school. Following high school and a brief time at business college, Barbara returned to Miami to visit family where she met Kenneth Tomlinson at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church, a meeting she described as “love at first sight.” They were married on February 13,1960 and celebrated 60 wedding anniversaries together before Kenneth’s passing in 2020 with Barbara and his girls by his side. The couple made their home in Hollywood, Florida where they remained until their retirement. Barbara worked as an executive secretary but saw her primary occupation as a devoted homemaker to her family. Barbara loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends at Little Flock on Sundays, but raising her girls was indeed her most cherished occupation. She was happiest when she was volunteering at her girls’ schools and chaperoning school activities including band and hi-steppers events at McArthur High School. Mrs. Tomlinson and her husband were the high school’s parents of the year in1981.
During time away from school and work, Barbara enjoyed both traveling to visit relatives in Georgia and her travels throughout the United States and Europe. In 1988, the Tomlinson’s moved back to Valdosta to care for her mother, Margaret Snow, and to enjoy a slower pace in retirement. They moved their membership letter to Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Adel where they were welcomed as family. During her retirement years she enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and engaging in activities with the Garden Club and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Barbara is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Tomlinson of Valdosta, and Lisa Tomlinson and William Christeson of Colonial Beach, Virginia; three grandchildren, William Yonce, Jr. (Tara), Robert Yonce (Kristen) and Haley Tomlinson; four great grandchildren, Benjamin Yonce, and Konnor, Koda, and Kolin Yonce. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Tomlinson, her mother and father, Margaret and Coney Snow, a sister, Judith Murphy and a brother, Steven Snow.
The funeral for Mrs. Tomlinson will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024, in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira, GA.
