Barbara G. Yancey formerly of Valdosta died on Friday, July 11, 2014. She was born and raised in the Eastman/Rentz Georgia community and had lived in Valdosta since 1958. She graduated for Mercer College in Macon where she majored in History. While at Mercer she met and married her husband the late Reuben H. Yancey who was studying law and also enlisted in the Army. He completed his army tour overseas in Italy during the Korean Conflict while Mrs. Yancey was based in West Virginia. After completing his tour of duty Mr. Yancey met his law partner at St. Simons Island, he and Mrs. Yancey moved to Valdosta in 1958 where they raised their four children. Mrs. Yancey moved to Lafayette, Georgia in September 2012 to live out her days in the home of her daughter, Jill Y. Hill. She was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Valdosta.
Survivors include her son, James T. Yancey, her daughter, Jill Y. Hill and her grandchildren, Eddie Barham, Jason Barham, RJ Yancey, Mathew Yancey and Lori J. Hill and five great grandchildren. She was prececed in death by her her husband, Reuben H. Yancey, her oldest daughter, Linda Y. Barham, her oldest son, Chip Yancey and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Grinstead.
Memorial services will be held at 10am, Saturday, July 19, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. David Tart officiating. A private burial will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
