Barbara Cobb Gandy

Barbara Cobb Gandy, 95, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Orchard after a period of declining health. Born in Rome to the late John Garrett Cobb and Corienne Holcombe Cobb, she grew up in Brooks County and graduated from Quitman High School. After high school, Barbara attended Georgia State Women’s College (now VSU) and while attending there, she met Bill Gandy (Sr.). They started dating and were married in 1947 in Quitman. The Gandys were married for 47 years prior to his death in 1995. Barbara was the secretary for Valdosta Junior High School for many years and later on served as office manager for her husband’s CPA firm. Then the Gandys began and operated Gandy’s Fudge ‘N Sweets in Lake Park and New Braunfels, TX before retiring in 1992. Barbara was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her three sons and daughters in law, H. William “Bill” Gandy, Jr. and wife Sharron of Valdosta; Michael Garrett & Carey Gandy of Marble Hill, GA; John Bradley & Nelda Gandy of Spring Hill, TN; five grandchildren, Ryan Gandy and wife Jill of Cincinnati, OH; Alden Gandy of Cincinnati, OH; Brandley Gandy and wife Rebecca of Denver, CO; Riley Gerrald and wife Eden of Valdosta; Ryan Gerrald of Talmo, GA . Also surviving are 4 great grandchildren, Hudson Wm. Gandy, Aubrey, Spencer & Lucy Gerrald, and special cousins Kay & Yon Suber of Franklin, TN, and a sister, Corienne, Tison of Quitman. She is preceded in death by her husband, H. William Gandy, Sr.

The funeral will be held for Mrs. Gandy at 2 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 1 pm until service time.
