Barbara Burton Parks, 81, of Valdosta died on Monday, January 30, 2012 at her residence. She was born on August 2, 1930 in Americus, Georgia to the late Jesse Stanley, Sr. and Helen Rackley Burton. She attended Georgia Southwestern and graduated from the University of Georgia where she was an honor student. She was employed as a dietician with Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, and later at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Mrs. Parks was involved in many charitable and service organizations such as the Junior Service League, the Cotillion Club and she volunteered with hospice and other service organizations. She had passions for traveling, cooking, entertaining family and friends and laughing. Mrs. Parks was a longtime and active member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Marshall (Mac) Parks III of Valdosta and William (Bill) Parks of St. Simons; a daughter, Keven Parks of Valdosta; grandchildren, Courtney Parks and Dylan Whiddon both of Valdosta, and Cason Parks of Woodstock; a great-grandchild, Lily Ackerman of Hinesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Marshall Parks, Jr. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care of Livinia, Pauline, Jennifer, Hospice of South Georgia and others who have helped in the past.
Services for Barbara Parks are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Reverend Peter Ingeman, The Reverend Tar Drazdowski, Deacon Stella Clark and Deacon Patricia Marks officiating. The committal will follow in the Christ Episcopal Church Urn Garden. The family will receive friends in the Parrish Hall following the committal.
