Barbara Ann Dowdy

Barbara Ann Dowdy, 66, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, December 3, 2011, from a sudden illness at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Jesup, Wayne County, Georgia, on October 30, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Harley, Sr. and Lela Mae Fulton Strickland. Mrs. Dowdy was a homemaker, serving alongside of her husband in the ministry for 37 years. She was a member of the Ocilla Church of God.

Survivors are her husband, Reverend Jimmy Dowdy of Valdosta; her sons and a daughter in law, Kevin L. and Janet Dowdy of Bainbridge, Randy Dowdy of Lowndes County; her daughters and a son in law, Wendy and Clayton Dowd of Ocilla, Michelle Kersey of Ocilla; a sister, Betty Bennett of Jesup; grandchildren, Dustin Dowdy and his wife Ali, Jared Dowdy, Morgan Dowd, and Jordan Dowd; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. at West Lake Church of God in Hamilton County. Reverend Calvin Lewis and Reverend Ralph Dillard will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lake Church of God Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta on Monday evening from 6 -8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to West Lake Chuch of God Cemetery Fund. www.mclanecares.com
