Avanell Jernigan Blanchard

Avanell Jernigan Blanchard of Valdosta, died on Monday, March 25, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Lowndes County, October 2, 1931, to the late Archie Daniel & Daisy Lee Jones Jernigan. She was a lifelong resident of Valdosta.

Avanell went to school in Naylor. She met and married George Blanchard and was married for 67 years till his death. She worked for many years at Levi's before going to work at Morningside Daycare. For 30+ years Avanell was the church main food preparer, cooking many meals and always worked tirelessly on the Wild Game Dinners. She was loved by all and had a sweet spirit. Avanell loved the Lord and attended Morningside regularly until her declining health.

Survivors include her children, Sue Blanchard Clary (Jim), Dan Blanchard, and Dale Blanchard. Grandchildren: Leigh Clary Abdou (Tony) and Nicole Blanchard Rowe (Scott); great grandchildren, Elijah and Alexander Abdou and Claire Rowe. Also surviving is a brother, Wayne Jernigan. She is preceded in death by her husband George Blanchard, a granddaughter Jamie Clary, six sisters and three brothers.

The funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 30, 2024 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
