Ava Nell Fletcher Witherspoon

Ava Nell Witherspoon, 87, of Valdosta, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Born in Lowndes County, on December 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Zack Burton Fletcher and Eliza Virginia Carter Fletcher. She retired after 35 years of service with Barnes Drug Store. Mrs. Witherspoon was a Red Hat Society Member, with the Wild Huckleberry Division. She was a member of TOPS, and a very devoted and active member of Swilley Hill Church of God. Known for her outgoing personality, Mrs. Witherspoon loved people, traveling, fishing and quilting.
Widow of the late John Witherspoon, Mrs. Witherspoon is survived by her son and daughter in law, Johnny and Peggy Witherspoon of Valdosta; daughters and sons in law, Linda and Oby Giles of Valdosta, Wanda and Wendell Dasher of Lake Park; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and Lupe Giles, Jason and Amy Witherspoon, Pam and Chico Hernandez all of Valdosta, Jeb and Jesica Dasher of Lake Park, Brandi and Randy Wisenbaker of Valdosta; twelve great grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Gloria and Ethridge Coppage, brother and sister in law, Hulon and JoAnn Fletcher, special brother in law and right-hand man, Morris Witherspoon all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and nine siblings, Freeman Fletcher, Irene Scarborough, Geraldine Giddens, Jean Lewis, Dewitt Fletcher, Genell Wilson, Joyce Ruis and two infant brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Wayne Owens and Pastor Andy Pearson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Swilley Hill Church of God.
