Arthur “Buck” Johnson, 88, of Lake City, FL, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his home. He was born in Lake City, FL, to the late Leonard Johnson, Sr. and Allie Vernice Dukes Johnson. Buck retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years, he loved being outside and always had something to do. He was a hard worker, a humble person, and an amazing father figure. Buck loved his family and will be dearly missed, he was a wonderful grandfather, who was affectionately known as Papa Buck and “Uncle Bucky.”
Buck is survived by his wife Marcell Johnson, of Valdosta, his son Earl Gaskins, Jr. of Valdosta, his niece Tina Anderson, who he loved as a daughter, of O’Brien, FL, his granddaughter Kaelyn Gilliard, of Valdosta, and great grandchildren Liam Henry Gilliard, Wren Elizabeth Gilliard, Daniel Slaten, Michael Slaten, and Danielle Anderson. He will be missed by great nieces, Sherry Thomas, Tina Anderson, Angel Johns, Johann Johns, Tabitha Johns, Christy Johns, Candice Froehlich, Ryleigh Froehlich; great nephews Thomas Starling, Jr., Leonard Starling, Jeff Anderson, Jack Anderson; great great-nieces Leyann Grant, Jasmin Starling, Justice Starling, Falon Starling, Zoey Roberts; great great-nephews Jeffery Prescott, Christian Ohmer, Brandon Ohmer, Blaze Roberts, Corbin Johns; great great-great-nieces Kali Grant, Hannah Grant; and his great great-great-nephews Zane Brown, Kendrick Grant, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Johnson, Sr., mother, Allie Johnson, brother, Leonard Johnson, Jr., sister, Shirley Rogers, uncle Buck, sister Betty Strickland, brother George Johnson, nephews Roger Thomas, Jimmy Strickland, Frank Strickland, Robin Strickland and kids, George Strickland and kids, and nieces Belinda Thomas, Cindy Thomas, Cathy Johns, Nancy Starling, Lorie Froehlich, Evie Strickland, Betty Jean Strickland.
Funeral services for Buck will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Mt. Zion Methodist Church with Pastor Gordon Van Namee officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at 3pm at Oaklawn Cemetery in Lake City, FL. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am at the church.
