Arthur "Art" Franklin Baker, 84, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015, at South Georgia Medical Center.
He was born June 1, 1931 in Nashville, GA, a son of the late Arthur Amos and Eloise Kirby Baker. Mr. Baker honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He later worked at PCA, retiring in 1996, after forty-one years. He was of the Church of Christ faith, was Chief of the Southside Volunteer Fire Dept. for twenty-three years, and a Lowndes Co. Sherriff's Office Auxiliary Deputy for sixteen years.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of over sixty-four years, Melba Doris Lovett Baker of Valdosta; six children and their spouses, Patricia and Tony Black of Boston, MA, Gerry and Donna Baker of Valdosta, Danny and Debbie Baker of Valdosta, Stanley and Sharon Baker of Elberfeld, IN, Angie and Patrick Minarovich, Sr. of Valdosta, and Delaine and Robert Bruce of Boston, GA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Carter of
Nashville, and Helen Redding of Hahira; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Lovett of Valdosta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Baker and Huey Baker.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Baker will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Mr. Tony Black and Mr. Patrick Minarovich, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
