On August 19, 2018, Arminda Johnson Newkam Morrison, 94 years old of Valdosta, finished the race set before her (Hebrews 12:1) and was welcomed into the joyful presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:21).
Arminda Morrison was the eldest of seven siblings, born on July 22, 1924, in Valdosta, Georgia, to William Franklin Johnson, Sr., and Luana Roberts Johnson. She grew up in Ashburn, Jacksonville, Florida and Valdosta, graduating from Valdosta High School in 1942. She married Carl Newkam that year and lived for the next 20 years in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The couple had three children while living there. In 1962 she moved back to Valdosta and worked for the Coca-Cola bottling company for over 25 years. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta and was an active participant in several adult Sunday School classes.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Ohrenschall of Stone Mountain, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sharon Newkam of Suwannee, Georgia; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Greene of Rome, Georgia and Nancy and Jack Allen of Valdosta; brother, Robert Johnson of Hahira; brother-in-law, Jim Brantley of Valdosta, sister-in-law, Margie Johnson of Valdosta; grandsons; Erich and Jennifer Ohrenschall, Christopher Ohrenschall; Jeffery Ballentine, Jesse and Amy Ballentine; Kevin and Ashley Newkam; granddaughters Melissa and Robert Clark and Mindy and Mark Owens; great-grandsons Wyatt Ballentine, Weston Ballentine, Everett Ohrenschall, Lincoln Owens, Camden Clark; great-granddaughters Lillian Owens; Ava Hinton; and Josie Ballentine. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ballentine, a sister, Bea J. Brantley, brother and sister-in-law, W. F. (Bill), Jr. and Gerry Johnson, brother, Thomas Johnson, sister-in-law, Peggy Johnson, brother-in-law, Lester V. Greene.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm, Thursday, August 23, 2018 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn.
