Aretha May O'Steen-Drake, 82, of Valdosta, died at her home on Thursday, September 07, 2017. Born in Nashville, on February 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Maggie Howard May. She had worked for the Lowndes County School System in the high school cafeteria. She enjoyed yard work and fishing. Aretha was an avid Lowndes High School football fan, and she enjoyed preparing the team meals and working concessions for the Touchdown Club.
Survivors are her son, Tyrone O'Steen of Valdosta, daughter, Pamela Pittman of Marianna, Florida, sisters, Juanita Davis of Howell, Virginia Wetherington of Nashville, Marie Morgan of Ray City, Idelle Mosley of Lizella, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Drake and Elbert E. O'Steen, six brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Carlton Allen and Reverend Roger Mays will officiate. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery near Lakeland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 -7 p.m. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com.
