Mrs. Annie Wetherington Stalvey, 90, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Louis Smith Hospital in Lakeland. Born in Colquitt County, Georgia, on March 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leffy and Nancy Rentz Wetherington. Mrs. Stalvey was a homemaker and a member of Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She had lived in the Barretts-Cat Creek Community area since her marriage to Dewey H. Stalvey in 1937.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Stubbs, eight grandchildren, Alex Stubbs, Julie (Jimmy) Guess, Timothy Stubbs of Valdosta; Alan (Joella) Stalvey, Donna Gore of Baxley, Amy (Glenn) O’Neal of Lyons; Jammie (Laurie) Stalvey and Jodi (Kenyon) Farmer of Hahira; eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Esther Cowart of Hahira, daughters-in-law, Shirley Stalvey Banegas of Baxley, Charlotte Stalvey King of Cecil and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Stalvey was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey H. Stalvey and two sons, Louis Lamar Stalvey and Dewey Brinson Stalvey.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Jim Sandlin and Elder Bob Dickerson will officiate. Burial will follow at Cat Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Stalvey will lie in state at the church from 10 am until service time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cat Creek Cemetery Fund.
