Annie Ruth McLeod Carter, of Echols County died Friday, December 28, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Mary Williams. She was born in Lowndes County on January 1, 1920 to the late Thomas E. and Velaria Wisenbaker McLeod and was a lifelong resident of Statenville. Mrs. Carter loved tending to her yard and flowers, enjoyed sewing and cooking and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Lake Park Church of Christ.
Survivors include her nine children and their spouses, Tommy and Phyllis Carter, Mary H. Williams all of Valdosta, Gene and Patsy Carter of Lake Park, Winston and Sue Carter of Dasher, Betty G. and Foster Stanley of Thomasville, Charles and Linda Carter of Statenville, Melvin Carter, Diane Callahan, Randy and Mechelle Carter all of Lake Park, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer J. Carter, two sons in law, Julius Williams and Jerry Callahan, a grandson, John Ethan Carter and six sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Monday, December 31, 2012 at Sardis Baptist Church in Echols County with Mr. Marvin Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter Cemetery. Mrs. Carter will taken to her home on Sunday to lie in state for visitation with family and friends at 1033 Tince Road, Lake Park, GA 31636. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Homer J. Carter or to Grace Hospice, 101 Northside Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
