Annie Elizabeth Crosby Peace

May 23, 1908 — March 12, 2005

Annie Elizabeth Crosby Peace, 96 of Valdosta died on Saturday, March 12, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 23, 1908 in Brooks County a descendent of pioneer Brooks County families. She was the daughter of the late William Peter Crosby and Mattie Pearl Lee Crosby. She was married on October 3, 1926 to Benjamin Claude Peace of Lowndes County in Quitman, GA. She lived in Brooks County until she moved to Valdosta in 1934. Mrs. Peace was a homemaker and a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ in Valdosta.

Mrs. Peace invested her life in her family whom she dearly loved and her love never wavered. Her pride in her heritage led her to be instrumental in the founding of several organizations. Mrs. Peace was a charter member of the Capt. James Monroe Briggs Chapter 2538, United Daughters of the Confederacy; Col. Ebenezer Folsom Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; Lt. William Spencer Chapter, and The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She was a member of The United Daughters of the Confederacy Real Granddaughters’ Club; as a descendent of her grandfather, Henry Washington Crosby who served in Company K 50th Georgia Regiment C. S. A. She was a charter member of the Dogwood Garden Club and the Grand Gardeners at the Crescent and the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Madlyn and Ed Hightower, Ann and Bobby Bray all of Valdosta; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Hollis Peace, Mack and Elaine Peace all of Valdosta. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Linda and Gene Fender of Carrolton, Eddie and Rita Hightower of Richmond, VA, Beth and Ronnie Bearden of Ball Ground, GA, Ann Peace, Ben and Bridgett Hightower, Leigh and Eddie Grantham of Valdosta, Lisa and Craig Pittman all of Valdosta, Lynn and David Wood of Cumming, Mack, Jr. and Jennifer Peace of Valdosta; thirteen great grandchildren, Gene Fender, Jr. of Marietta, Ron Bearden, Wendi and Corey Buckner all of Ball Ground, Bucky Hightower of Chapel Hill, NC, Amanda and Kristin Pittman, Heather and Briggs Hightower, Johnny Holcomb, Chuck Culpepper, Brayden Grantham all of Valdosta, Kaitlyn and Connor Wood of Cumming; and two great-great grandchildren, Brandon Bearden and Kaylee Buckner both of Ball Ground. She was preceded in death by her husband, a beloved daughter-in-law, Shirley Taylor Peace, a grandson, Robert Lee Bray and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Jerry Herring, minister at Welcome Hill Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
