Anne (Bitsy) McDonald Cooper of Valdosta passed away Tuesday March 4, 2025 after a lengthy illness.
Anne was born to the late Ernest J. and Virginia McDonald on May 19, 1943. Ernest and Virginia had McDonald’s nursery on Alden Ave where she learned about all variegations of Camellias and Azaleas. Anne attended Valdosta High School and graduated in the Class of 1961. She then attended Valdosta State College, Auburn University and transferred to the University of Georgia where she graduated with her Masters of Speech and Language Pathology. She was employed with the Lowndes County Board of Education where she provided speech therapy to many wonderful students, inspiring some to eagerly follow in her profession. She retired in 2000 and lived life! Anne was the most wonderful mother to her two boys, Jay and Alan Cooper. The three of them would have so many wonderful trips to Auburn, AL and St. George Island, FL where they made lifelong memories together. Anne and Alan would often visit small herb farms purchasing plants to bring home to raise. They frequented Mt Zion Music Hall to watch their favorites Bud Zorn and Don Mason perform. We know that she and Alan are dancing in heaven together now. Anne grew up in the Lee Street Baptist church and was a current member of First Methodist church in Valdosta.
Anne is survived by her son Jay Cooper and his wife Bridgette, brother Ernest M. McDonald and his wife Marjorie. Also many, many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends. Anne was preceded in death by her loving son Robert “Alan” Cooper, her brother Fred McDonald, sister Mary Virginia and her husband Claude Moore of Auburn, AL.
