Ann Kirby Lackey

Ann Kirby Lackey, 88, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Fellowship Home. Born on June 8, 1933, to the late Dudley & Marion Zipperer Kirby in Valdosta, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Growing up in Valdosta and graduating from high school, she went on to attend and graduate from Valdosta State College (now University). She continued her studies at the University of Georgia where she received her Master of Fine Arts. Ann began her teaching career at Auburn University before returning to Valdosta where she taught for many years at Valdosta State University. She was also an avid supporter of the arts in Valdosta. She was a frequent attender of the theater presentations of Peach State Summer Theatre and served on the Board of Directors. She was also a past trustee on the Valdosta State University Foundation, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Book Review Club, and the Valdosta County Club. Ann was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta and taught Sunday School there for many years in both the College and Adult Sunday School Departments.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan Fatherly of Palm Bay, FL and her grandson, Rick Franklin; her brother and sister-in-law, William & Linda Kirby of Valdosta; She is preceded in death by her husband, Zeb Lackey and her stepdaughter, Marsha Luke.
A graveside service will be held for Ann at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Mack Weaver will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Valdosta, 200 West Central Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601.
