Ann Dukes

July 26, 1943 — March 2, 2024

Valdosta, GA

Ann M. Dukes, 80, of Valdosta passed away on March 2nd surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Ann was born on July 26, 1943 to the late Ben Ira Moore and Annie Mae (Bailey) Moore in Lowndes County.

Ann was truly a force of life that people were drawn to. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She married the love of her life, the late Aldean F. Dukes Sr., they shared 40+ beautiful years together before he passed away in 2021. The pride and joy of her life were her sons, Michael and Steve Bradford, and grandchildren, Sarah Ann Scarborough (Trevor) and Ben Bradford. Her love and longing to care for her family was invaluable. She cherished every moment she got to spend with them. Her strength, courage, and resilience in life were an inspiration to countless people. She was a listening ear, a comforter, an encourager, a second mom, and a caretaker for those who needed it. Her door and heart were always open. It was almost guaranteed she had a smile on her face anytime you saw her.

Throughout the years she and her beloved husband were the host of many holiday parties and festivities where family and friends flooded in. Serving, gathering, and enjoying time with loved ones were things she was passionate about. She had a gift for bringing everyone together and showering them with exactly what they needed. Her camera was in tow just about anywhere she went, trying to capture every precious memory. Traveling and shopping with sisters, granddaughter, nieces and nephews were some of her favorite pastimes. Her family and friends enjoyed loading up in the RV with her and taking many trips. She was always up for an adventure. Even the most mundane activities she could turn into pure fun. Her ability to make the best out of any situation or circumstance encouraged and pushed people to continue on. While her family and friends have endured a tremendous loss they take comfort in knowing that she is healed and rejoicing in Heaven.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” - A.A. Milne

Ann is also survived by her three sisters, Iris Bailey (Danny), Billie Abrahamsen, and Mae Hudgins, and multiple nieces and nephews that she treasured.
