Amorette Campbell, 94, a lifelong resident of Valdosta died on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Louis Smith Hospital in Lakeland following a short illness. She was born in Valdosta on December 15, 1914 to the late Leonard and Myrtice Carruthers Dugger. She and her late husband, William Barnes Campbell, Sr., owned and operated Campbell Electric Company and she was the company bookkeeper for over 30 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women serving as a circle leader, a member of both the 55 and Alive and Chancel choirs, and was the president of her Sunday school class. She was also the area children's coordinator for the UMC and had been a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. Mrs. Campbell was also a member of the Literary Guild.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorena and Bill Piper of Jennings, Florida, and Susan Madeline Hamilton of Decatur, Alabama; a son and daughter-in-law, William Jr. and Sandra Campbell of Valdosta; eight grandchildren and spouses, Mary Piper of Huntingtown, Maryland, Jeannine Piper and Mark Magid of Phoenix, Arizona, Kathy and Kenneth Winton, Michael Lee Hamilton and Scott Hamilton all of Decatur, Alabama, Tim and Lynn Hamilton of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Buck and Terri Campbell of Lake Park, and Christie and Glenn Seitz of Warner Robins; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, John Robert Dugger of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews.
Services for Amorette Campbell will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Mason, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prayer Garden or the Music Ministry at the First United Methodist Church.
