Amanda Boyette Love

April 5, 1916 — January 27, 2008

Amanda Boyette Love, longtime resident of Lowndes County, died at the age of ninety-one on January 27, 2008. Mrs. Love was well known and active with many civic and church organizations in the area. Born on April 5th, 1916, to the late Leona Crum Boyette and Jesse Thomas Boyette, she grew up on farm in northern Lowndes County with four brothers and one sister, eventually marrying her husband of sixty-four years, the late William Earl Love, in 1939.

During WWII, Mrs. Love and her husband moved to Brunswick where she was employed as a metal burner in the construction of battleships in the ship yards. After the war, she returned to her role as homemaker and ultimately the Loves purchased and settled onto their farm near Dasher. Mrs. Love became active in the Homemakers Council and held the post of President of the Georgia State Homemakers Council at one time. She was also a very active volunteer leader in the Lowndes County 4-H club, which recognized her many years of service by naming her an "Honorary Master 4-Her".

Amanda Love was deeply religious and devoted to New Bethel Baptist Church in northern Lowndes County, where she was a life-long member and leader in Sunday School, WMU, and other church activities. She also supported her husband's retirement passion for daylilies as a member of the American Hemerocallis Society and her son's love for music as a member of the Lowndes High School Band Boosters Club.

She is survived by her brother, Alva Boyette, beloved sister-in-law, Sallie Boyette, her only child, Tom Love, daughter-in-law, Andrea Love, and grandchildren Rachael, Chatham and Spencer Love. Three brothers and her sister precede Mrs. Love in death.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31st, at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church. Reverend Jim Schappaugh will officiate. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery.
