Alwilda Rogers DeCesare, 81, of Valdosta, died on Monday, October 23, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta to the late L.J. (Buck) & Leola Rogers, Mrs. DeCesare attended Valdosta High School. She met her future husband, Jimmy, on his first night in Valdosta when he came as one of the first airmen to be stationed at Moody Air Force Base. They were married for 55 years before his death in 1997. She and her family owned and operated Jimbo’s Family Restaurant where she loved to talk to the patrons, sometimes even late into the night, and made many new friends with her beautiful smile. Mrs. DeCesare had four older brothers growing up and was a devoted sister to them and daughter to her parents. Later in life, Mrs. DeCesare suffered an aneurism and a stroke that left her very sick. Her husband Jimmy cared for her in their home for 10 years before his death. She was deeply devoted to her husband, her six children and doted on her grandchildren. Mrs. DeCesare was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Peggy & Lee Swigart, of Valdosta, & Lisa Kim Harris of Americus; three sons and two daughters in law, Frank Roger DeCesare of LaGrange, Michael & Belinda DeCesare, of Warner Robbins, and Robert (Bob) & Sandra DeCesare of Valdosta; and a brother, Tommy (Dick) Rogers of Morven. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Jay (Amy) DeCesare of Atlanta, Ashlee Faircloth of Statesboro, Sherry (Jonathon) Pentecost of Ft. Meyers, Lori (Kent) Tokar of Newnan, Betsy (Derrick) Hopson of Lincoln, AL, Frank Roger DeCesare, Jr. of Valdosta, Lynn (Marc) Reed of Perry, Scott (Amy) Stuart of Petersburg, VA, Janice (Bobby) Goodin of Americus, Robert O. DeCesare, Jr., Dahlonega, Joshua Blake DeCesare and Colby Belflower DeCesare, both of Valdosta, Zane DeCesare Harris and Gina Marie Harris, both of Americus; 17 great grandchildren with one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband J.J. (Jimmy) DeCesare, a son James (Chipper) DeCesare, Jr. and brothers, James Lanier Rogers, Stanley Rogers and Freeman Rogers.
Funeral services for Mrs. DeCesare will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Alford, Rev. Charlie Scarbrough and Mr. Michael DeCesare will officiate. Committal will follow in the mausoleum at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Tuesday, October 24, 2006 from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church. The family will be gathering at the home of Bob DeCesare, 4447 Plantation Crest, Valdosta, GA 31602.
