Alvina Miller Janney

October 22, 1916 — September 11, 2015

Alvina Miller Janney, 98, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, September 11, 2015. She was born October 22, 1916 in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Carl George Miller and Martha Yahn Miller, and was baptized at the St. John's Lutheran Church on November 26, 1916. Mrs. Janney met her future husband while traveling with her father on a business trip to Macon, GA. After receiving a marriage proposal and ring through the mail from her late husband, Earl H. Janney, Sr., she married him on October 10, 1940. They resided in Macon, GA for the next 60 years before moving to Valdosta, GA in the year 2000. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. A devout Christian with a strong love for her family and her church. She was known by all for her tireless energy and positive outlook on life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Janney, Sr., three brothers, Lawrence Miller, Raymond Miller, and Irwin Miller; and one sister, Freda Stern.

Alvina is survived by her two sons, Dr. Earl H. Janney, Jr. (Johnnette) of Valdosta, and Carl G. Janney (Dianne) of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Dr. A. Lane Janney (Rick Butler) of Tallahassee, FL, Laurie J. Scarborough (Stan) of Valdosta, Amy J. Balch (Tim) of Adel, Wendy D. Janney of Jacksonville, FL, Joshua C. Janney (Heidi) of Valdosta; eleven great grandchildren, Rebecca O. Cowart (Brandon) of Valdosta, Alex O'Neal of Valdosta, Emily and Lauren Scarborough of Valdosta, Cannon and Madison Butler of Tallahassee, FL, Harley, Hayden, and Noah Balch of Adel, Jordan and Landon Janney of Valdosta; two great-great grandchildren, Isabella and Brandon Cowart of Valdosta; and many friends.

A memorial service for Mrs. Janney will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Rev. Richard Pieplow will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Langdale Place, and Langdale Hospice.
