Alva J. Boyette

Alva J. Boyette, 96, lifelong resident of Valdosta passed away peacefully at Baptist Village in Lake Park on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Born in Lowndes County, Georgia, on December 14, 1913, he was the son of the late Jesse Thomas Boyette and Leona Crum Boyette. On February 11, 1939 Alva was united in marriage with Iona Stalvey. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during WWII in the Pacific as an aircraft sheet metal worker. After the war he worked for his brother, Harmon Boyette at the Mercury Auto Dealership as body shop manager. He then worked for the Civil Service at Moody Air Force Base in sheet metal repair. Mr. Boyette retired from Moody Air Force Base after 30 years. After his retirement he taught sheet metal repair at Valdosta Technical School for 5 years. He enjoyed making knives in his spare time. An avid fisherman, he loved to nurture his camellia's and fruit trees. Mr. Boyette was a member of First Baptist Church and the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class.

Survivors are his sister-in-law, Audrey H. Stalvey of Jacksonville and numerous nieces, (including Brenda Shiver who has been his caregiver for a number of years) nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Iona Stalvey Boyette; his sisters, Alma Boyette Eason Johnson and Amanda Love; brothers, I. Harmon Boyette, Charlie Boyette and J. T. Boyette.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Phil West, Reverend Mac Weaver and Reverend Jim Schappaugh will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
