Alonzo Wilbur Coggins, 87, of Lake Park entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. He was a resident at Langdale Hospice House due to a lengthy illness. He was born on February 11, 1928 in Homestead, Fl to the late Perry Coggins, Sr. and LaBertha Brown Coggins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Blair Coggins of Lake Park; one sister, Ann Hilt of Deland, FL; other survivors include a niece, Charlotte (Howard) Swain of Murfreesboro, TN who lived with Mr. and Mrs. Coggins for ten years due to the death of her mother; three special nephews, Felton (Barbara) Coggins, Gerald (Sara) Coggins and Pat Coggins wife of the late Edwin Coggins all of Lake Park. Mr. Coggins has numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. .
Mr. Coggins served in Korea while in the U. S. Army. After marriage, he moved to Jacksonville and Hawthorne, Fl where he worked for Oakcrest Enterprises for 23 years. They then moved to Ocala where he worked for Seminole Feeds for 9 years. After they returned to Lake Park, Mr. Coggins worked with the family at Coggins Farm Supply for 20 years before retiring.
Mr. Coggins was a very sweet and loving person and everyone who knew him really enjoyed his company. He enjoyed church and was of the Church of God faith and was a Sunday School Superintendent while living in Florida. He always enjoyed a good laugh and being around people. He loved working outside with flowers and planting a garden. He really loved talking about his years farming.
The family would like to say "thanks" to Dr. Thomas Hobby, all the employees and volunteers at Langdale Hospice House for all the love, support and special care that was given to Mr. Coggins during his time of sickness. It will always be remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, June 26, 2015 in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Dowdy and Pastor Keith Sandlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
