Allie "Inez" Butler Zipperer, 91, of Valdosta, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at her home in Lowndes County. She was born April 26, 1921 in Sumter, SC to the late Roman D. and Lula Hodge Butler. She moved to Georgia at an early age and lived most of her life in Lowndes County, where she married her loving husband, the late Lawrence E. Zipperer, Sr. They were married 61 years before his death in 2008. Mrs. Zipperer was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A devoted homemaker, she especially enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and church family.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Freida Z. and Johnny Rutland of Tifton; three sons and four daughters-in-law, Sidney and Kathy Zipperer of Moultrie, Robert and Patsy Zipperer, Gilbert and Susan Zipperer, and Tami Zipperer all of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Julie R. (Tom) Conner, Josh Rutland (and Alisha Sweat), Joy R. (Jimmy) Ballenger all of Tifton, Jason (Heather) Montgomery, Graham (Keri) Zipperer, Leslie Zipperer (and Jordan Herring), Jason Zipperer, Brittani Zipperer ( and Marcus Hughes), Gerrod Zipperer, Cole (Betsy) Craven, Caleb (Christy) Craven, Selena (Travis) Phinney, Jessica (James) Merritt all of Valdosta, Lauren (Jason) Turner of Mayday, Grant Zipperer of Macon, Gretchen (Randall) Johnson of Springfield, Shiloh (Allison) Craven of Jacksonville, Florida, Chris (Jami) Inman of Warner Robins, Dusty (Sherwin) Smith of Newton, Shaun Galloway of Washington, DC.; and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law, Foster and Hazel Zipperer, Delphia Peace and Hilda Zipperer. Mrs. Zipperer was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Lawrence E. "Larry" Zipperer, Jr., and brothers, Archie, Tracy, Roy and Harry Butler.
Funeral services for Mrs. Zipperer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Bruce McCracken and Pastor Roger Mays will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
