Allen Loyce Arnold, Sr.

ALLEN LOYCE ARNOLD, SR. (Retired Chief), 81, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at Heritage Health Care at Lakehaven after a long illness. He was born on January 3, 1927 in Clyattville, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Arnold, Sr. and Minnie Lee Wisenbaker Arnold.

Mr. Arnold was a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime Deacon and active in the church's leadership. He was a cattle and tobacco farmer, and during World War II he served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. For 33 years he was employed with the Valdosta Police Dept., where he worked up through the ranks to Chief. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy, GA Police Academy, Georgia Military College, and had served for 15 years as Constable for the Lowndes County Magistrate Court, and had won many awards in the Valdosta Camelia Society. Mr. Arnold enjoyed travelling with the Happy Travelers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruby Lee Cain Arnold of Valdosta; one daughter, Rebecca Leigh and husband Paul Fiene of Indianapolis, IN; one son, Allen Loyce Arnold, Jr. of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Alexandria (Alex) Cecil, Allen Michael Arnold, Caleb Fiene and Dalton Arnold; one brother, Durward Arnold of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews; and two caregivers at home, Sandra and Barbara. He was predeceased by a son, John Robert Arnold, a sister, Evelyn Dasher, and by two brothers, William Francis Arnold and G.C. Arnold, Jr.

Services will be held at 2 pm Monday, January 5, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Baughcum and Mr. Charlie Fleetwood officiating. Burial with full honors will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
