Alice W. Johnson, 55, of Valdosta died on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. She was born in Washington D.C. on December 21, 1954 to the late Harry Bowman and Patricia Parker. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was of the Church of Christ faith. She was employed with the Valdosta City School System as a paraprofessional working with Sallas Mahone Elementary. She loved to travel and play golf had been an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She was also an avid reader and encouraged the children she taught the love, joy and importance of reading.
Survivors include a son, Michael Alexander and a daughter, Katie Johnson both of Valdosta; step-sons, Bryan Johnson of Savannah and Matthew Johnson of Valdosta; her step-father, Larry Parker of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce (Bo) and Melissa Bowman of Valdosta; a sister, Valerie Duke of Frost Proof, Florida; step-sister, Elizabeth Garcia of Edinburgh, Texas; a niece and her spouse, Tricia and Josh Stone of Millbrook, Alabama; Michael Alexander's father, Jed Alexander of Fairfax, Virginia; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Bryan Johnson and brother, Gregory Bowman.
Services for Alice W. Johnson will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. The burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
