Alice Devane McGeachy Osborn of Valdosta, Ga, passed away July 30, 2016, at the age of 88. She was born in Biltmore, NC and was the daughter of the late William Archie McGeachy and Henry Etta Evans McGeachy. As a child growing up she enjoyed time on her grandparent's farm in the community of Ousley.
She met and married Dorsey Dale Osborn while attending Georgia State College for Women in Valdosta. She later received her master's degree from Valdosta State College and became a beloved business education teacher in the Lowndes County School System. Alice was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Valdosta. She was a witness for Christ where ever she went and her life emphasized her devotion to Christian service. Her kind spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. She had a love for gardening throughout her life. During her last days she said, "I wish for everyone I know a happy life and to know that there is a heaven."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Dale Osborn, and her sisters Viva (Toole) Engle and Imo Jean Binder. She is survived by her children; son Dan (Gail) Osborn; daughter Evelyn (Ross) Shirley; son Alan Osborn; daughter Anita (Cary) Martin, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta Friday, August 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Georgia Sheriffs' Boys Ranch, 5671 Highway 122E, Hahira, GA 31632 or the charity of your choice.
