Alice Margaret Sims Thompson

Alice Margaret Sims Thompson, 92, of Valdosta, died at her residence after a lengthy illness on Thursday, July 24, 2008. Born on August 3, 1915 in Lowndes County, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Corinne Lineberger Sims. She attended UGA where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and later received her degree in education at Valdosta State College. Mrs. Thompson was a retired educator who taught for 18 years in Jeff Davis County and for 22 years in Valdosta City Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Valdosta Garden Club, and Readers' Forum. Mrs. Thompson was a member at First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her nephew, John Sims Bassford and his wife, Margaretha and son, Matthew, all of Jacksonville, FL; and her niece, Caroline Margaret Bassford of Valdosta. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Audry Thompson and her sister, Caroline Bassford.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hazelhurst City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
