Alice Joyce Haddock, 85, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. Born on February 15, 1924 in Huntsville, AL, she was the daughter of the late Lawson Haynes and Alice Odessa Blanton. Mrs. Haddock attended the Harris School of Art in Memphis, TN in the mid 40's. She worked for newspapers in several areas including, Panama City, Memphis, Nashville, Oklahoma and Texas. She also worked for the Valdosta Daily Times where she retired in the early 80's. Mrs. Haddock designed commercial ads for local businesses and was also in the Southern Artist League due to her interest in watercolor art. She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, E.W. Haddock, of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Haddock of Cobden, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charlie Bramhall of Loganville; and a granddaughter, Katie Harrell of Macon.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Craig Rikard officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LVAC, Lowndes Valdosta Arts Commission.
