Alice Bullard Carter, 86, of Valdosta died Monday, January 11, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. She was born on April 10, 1923 in White Springs, Florida to the late Cauley Carl and Katherine Carter Bullard. Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Joy/Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was actively involved in Carlton Carter's timber and farming operation that sustained their family. She stayed active in the day to day operation of that business up until the death of Carlton. She served as Director of Council on Aging in Hamilton County for many years and a member of the South Georgia Medical Center Auxillary. Mrs. Carter was an avid gardener.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Carter Bagwell and her spouse, Dub Bagwell of Gainesville, GA., Jeannie Carter Pennington and her spouse, Dr. Pat Pennington of Valdosta, one son, Carl Ivey Carter of Lake Park, GA., grandchildren, Emily Bagwell of Gainesville, GA., Carla Bridges and her spouse, John Bridges of San Francisco, Calif., William Bagwell and his spouse, Jennifer Bagwell of Gainesville, GA., Kate Pennington of Valdosta, Patton Pennington of Macon, GA., Carl Ivey Carter, Jr. and his spouse, Megan Carter of White Springs, Fla., Virginia Alice (Ginny) Mello and her spouse, Adonis Mello of Chapel Hill, NC., six great grandchildren, Catherine Harbin, Walker Bailey, Allison Bailey, William Bagwell, Emmaline Bagwell and Benjamin Bridges, one sister, Betty B. Nichols and her spouse Don Nichols of Jacksonville, Fla., one brother, Don Bullard and his spouse, Roselyn Bullard of Statesboro, GA., one sister in law, Miriam Bullard Butler of Eastman, GA and a wide extended family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carlton Carter and Mort Peeples, one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, 200 W. Central Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601 with Dr. Phil West and Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3pm at Memorial Cemetery in Lake City, Florida. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Valdosta, First Baptist Church of Jasper, Florida, First Baptist Church of White Springs, Florida or to the charity of your choice.
