Alice "Bess" Carswell Fontaine

Alice Bess Carswell Fontaine, 81, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, at Langdale Hospice House. Mrs. Fontaine was born in Americus, GA on August 22, 1933 to the late William Bragg and Alice Merritt Hill Carswell. Bess graduated from Quitman High School in 1950, she was formerly a secretary in the Sociology Dept. at Valdosta State University, A Pink Lady for many years at the South Georgia Medical Center and a Member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Fontaine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Larry Fontaine of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Cecelia and Kenny Chinn of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Douglas Fontaine of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law David and Barbara Fontaine of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in law, Laura and Tim Bellamy of Valdosta, Susan and Dale Brewster of Dalton, GA and Catherine and Bill Beiswenger of Colorado Springs, CO; a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Tanya Fontaine of Lake Park; a brother, William B. Carswell, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; and twin sisters, Cornelia Carswell Thompson of LasVegas, NV and Cecelia Carswell Swayze and husband Cole of Valdosta. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Fontaine was predeceased by a son, Stephen Fontaine, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Brian LaBurt officiating. A rosary will be held Monday February 2, 2015 at 5pm with visitation to follow in the Carson McLane Chapel.
